Great! You’ve bought your brand new quad bike from Dualways and you’re ready to experience a lot of fun and functionality.

But if you’ve never ridden a quad bike before, it’s not as easy as just jumping on and riding.

It’s true that if you hold a driving license, you are allowed to drive your quad bike on the road.

But with that being said, if you’ve never ridden a quad bike before, we’d strongly advise against it until you know how to comfortably and confidently, ride a quad bike.

In this article, we’ll give you beginners, 3 tips on how to ride a quad bike if you’ve never ridden one before.

Consider Taking A Course

Depending on where you’re at, starting off by taking a safety course on how to drive a quad bike might be your best option if you’re just starting out.

Beyond 4x4 have one of the most extensive quad bike courses throughout the UK, so visit their website to find out more and to book yourself on a course.

You’ll learn the basic fundamentals of riding a quad bike, how to ride safely and set you up for riding on different terrain.

Read All Documentation

We’re all guilty of throwing the owners manual to one side and enjoying our new purchase, whether that’s a car, bike or a quad bike.

But we strongly advise you to pick it up and read it. There should be riding tips, operating tips and instructions on what you should and shouldn’t do on the quad.

Here you may also be given maintenance checks and directions on how to look after your quad bike.

It’s a good idea of actually sitting on your quad as you read the owners manual so you can physically see where the brakes are, foot pegs and other things on the bike the manual will refer to,

Follow the manual to adjust the quad bike for your own comfort and riding style. At this stage, you may not have found your perfect riding position, but go with what feels natural to you and what is mentioned in the manual.

Practice In An Open Space

Finally, when you do get round to driving your quad bike for the first time, we’d strongly advise riding in an open space where there are no obstacles, just so you can go steady and get a good feel for the power of the quad and how to maintain control of it.

Whether that’s a large area of land such as fields you have access to or a large space such as an empty car park that you know will be clear for a length of time, go there and start practising.

Start slowly, get a feel for the throttle, the acceleration, the braking and turning. Even if you’re driving at 5mph, this is perfectly fine when you’re just getting a feel for the quad bike.

At the end of the day, it’s important to remember that quad bikes are heavy-duty machines and, should be treated responsibly. If you have an accident, it could potentially be dangerous.

So it’s best to start slow, get a feel for the controls, stay focused on what you’re doing, where you’re going and just practice, practice, practice!

Final Thoughts

There’s no need to put the pedal to the floor when you’re first starting out. Instead, go at your own pace, get comfortable with the quad bike and take your time on your first ride out.

If you feel as though you need more help and assistance, consider taking an ATV course to learn how to ride and the importance of safety.

But once you’ve practiced and keep riding, eventually everything will just click and it’ll come naturally to you, just as driving your car does.
